In solidarity of World Day Against Child Labor, NYC-based anti-trafficking organization Beauty for Freedom (BFF) and The Line presented a panel discussion at The Apartment by The Line (76 Greene St, New York, NY 3rd Floor, 10012) Tuesday, June 13th 7-9pm featuring founder of Ghanaian anti-labor trafficking organization Challenging Heights(CH), activist and survivor of child slavery James Kofi-Annan who will be joined by Moderator and Former Ohio State Representative Capri S. Cafaro, panelist and Emmy award-winning journalist Benjamin Skinner, panelist and survivor/advocate Ima Matul, Motivational Speaker and Rwandan Genocide Survivor Consolee Nishimwe, Rescue & Recovery Specialist Vincent Lyn and Activist/Journalist Melissa Jane Kronfeld. Music for the evening was curated by celebrity DJ and influencer Valissa Yoe.
The panel, focusing on child labor trafficking and human trafficking, served as an educational tool for guests and a call-to-action on what each person can do to minimize their slavery footprints through conscious buying practices and advocacy. Human trafficking is a crime that exploits women, children and men for numerous purposes including forced labor. The International Labor Organization estimates that 21 million people around the globe are victims of forced labor annually with 168 million children still in child labor.
