ABOUT #HERSTORY
We are in a global crisis and grassroots organizations and artists have had devastating impact to their livelihoods, community organizing, and projects. 100% of proceeds will be distributed equally between the organizations. All contributing artists and musicians involved will receive a stipend. All of the funds raised will be donated to Emergency Relief Efforts for the four organizations through our respective philanthropic platforms and creative therapeutic arts programming for the at-risk youth we serve.
As a collective of women of color led non-profits and global artists, we know that there is an urgent need to place a gender lens on injustice everywhere, including in humanitarian settings where girls and women are often most at-risk. In response, grassroots feminist organizations founded by Pan-African Women:
Beauty for Freedom, Stand4Education, The Adelle Onyango Initiative, and Tiwale are stepping up and continuing their vital work while taking action throughout the COVID Crisis and the global uprising against racism, police brutality, and injustice.
Despite new challenges and strained resources, our organizations have remained unwavering advocates and service providers for survivors of human trafficking across the globe, girls and women in South Sudan, Malawi and Kenya including refugees, LGBTQIA+ persons, and persons at-risk of trafficking, gender-based violence, oppression, and marginalization.
Beauty for Freedom’s Livestream Event called “HERSTORY” will raise funds for organizations founded and led by women of color from the US and Africa in honor of International Day of the Girl Child #DayOfTheGirl. The day aims to highlight and address the needs and challenges girls face while promoting girls’ empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights. We are a team of allies and women of color working to support one another through this unprecedented time in human history.
