Campaign to Battle Sex Trafficking By Engaging The Fashion and Beauty Industries

NEW YORK (September 12, 2015)– Monica Watkins, founder of anti-trafficking organization Beauty for Freedom; Ariana Barat, manager of the Printmaking Department at The New School’s Parsons School of Design; and Pamela Bell, founder of the activist product design studio Prinkshop, have teamed up to create The Color of Freedom | Keep the Girls Safe, a campaign to help raise funds and awareness for the fight to end sex-trafficking domestically and abroad.

Launching this month, the campaign’s mission is to engage the beauty, entertainment and fashion industries in the fight to end sex trafficking and to create an innovative, sustainable platform to raise awareness, accountability, and funds for charitable foundations who address this pressing issue.

“We are truly excited to launch The Color of Freedom | Keep the Girls Safe Campaign in honor of all of the survivors of sex-trafficking globally,” Watkins says. “Their voices and bravery inspire us to do our part in the fight for freedom!”

“By joining forces with the fashion industry, which has the power to connect with millions of people, we hope to end slavery and empower
survivors,” Barat adds. “This is the time to act.”

The first and second installment of The Color of Freedom, a video and photo series created by CTM Sisters Productions, features Diandra Forrest, a supermodel and human rights activist and Canadian actress/activist Serinda Swan, who recently joined Watkins, Barat and Bell to tackle the issue of sex trafficking. The clip is the brainchild of director Watkins, video editor and artist Sheila Maria Lobo and creative consultant and make-up artist Sokphalla Ban.

Additionally, Bell has created a signature Keep The Girls Safe gold and black color way T-shirt. The organization will donate 30 percent of the profit of the sales of the T-shirt to The New Somaly Mam Fund | Voices for Change, an anti-trafficking nonprofit organization and advocacy program for survivors of sex-trafficking in Southeast Asia. The concept of the T-shirt is a tongue-in-cheek play on wording that is generally perceived as provocative in the world of the sex industry.

Says Bell,“The Color of Freedom | Keep the Girls Safe Campaign is about raising awareness and funds to stop sex-trafficking. Period.”
