Supporting Survivors of Labor Trafficking and At-Risk Youth Through the Creative Arts
This video is a compilation of music, creative workshops and empowerment initiatives for underserved youth produced by Beauty for Freedom in Haiti, France, Dominican Republic, Ghana, and Haiti.
PROGRAM FOCUS:
To sustain and grow our empowerment initiatives through the arts, Beauty for Freedom (BFF) partnered with Challenging Heights teaching an arts therapy initiative featuring photography, watercolor painting and mural workshops to over 300 youth at the CH Friends International Academy and 58 young survivors of labor trafficking currently housed in the recovery program at The Hovde House Rescue Center. Beauty for Freedom brought in over 150 lbs of art supplies and professional DSLR camera equipment the youth used to create original artwork in the workshop series from June 24-July 7th, 2017.
PROGRAM IMPACT:
The workshops culminated in a community art exhibition on view for over 50 parents, friends and community members all supporting the creative process of the youth. The exhibition included Inside Out Project photography walls, an empowerment art mural featuring our students’ hopes and dreams and their original paintings were also on display throughout the school campus.
All of the youth’s artwork was transported to the US and has been featured in exhibitions in collaboration with professional global artists. Their work is currently featured in a new coffee table book “Illuminate Ghana” which will launch in Accra, Ghana and NYC Summer 2018 and their work has also been featured in several global publications such as Huffington Post, The Independent, The Daily Mail, and NY Mag’s “The Cut”. These youth are empowered by the fact that they are writing their own life narratives and are now known as professional artists!

Music Workshop:
Our program includes teaching a 101 course on how to make music, music production, intro to hip-hop history and a poetry course. These workshops will integrate technology using donated IPads and music created will be mixed into one collaborative song that will be sold on iTunes with all proceeds donated to CH.
