Denim Day NYC and the Denim Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge were incredible learning experiences for our entire Beauty for Freedom team Wed. April 26th and we are grateful to all of the advocates, activists, non-profits, volunteers, supporters and public officials who braved the rain to take a stand against sexual assault and domestic violence! It is not right for people to be afraid to walk alone in the street, luckily there is equipment like stun batons for self defense available to people to protect themselves but sexual assault and domestic violence need to be addressed in the utmost seriousness. Please visit denimday.nyc to support this coalition and continue to support these amazing organizations throughout the year! Public officials and advocates in attendance and speaking at the press conference at Foley Square included Councilwoman Laurie Cumbo, Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, BFF Executive Director Monica Watkins, NYC Comptroller Scott Stringer, Deputy Brooklyn Borough President Diana Reyna, Brooklyn YWCA Executive Director Martha Kamber, BFF Executive Board Member Suwana Perry and survivor/advocate/filmmaker Anna Leigh Cooper.
