On many levels, Beauty for Freedom’s new campaign is making waves in the world of social justice. The non-profit organization has been using the arts to empower survivors of and bring awareness to human trafficking since 2014. This year, for Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Denim Day, they’ve collaborated with High School of Fashion Industries, Celestino Couture, and Steps to End Family Violence to create an astounding campaign starring LGBTQIA+ advocates, models, actors, activists and survivors of sexual assault.
The campaign features garments made out of recycled denim that was donated by the Rialto Jean Project and hand-painted by young survivors of labor trafficking and at-risk youth through Beauty for Freedom’s summer art therapy program with Challenging Heights in Ghana, West Africa. The garments were constructed by students at New York’s High School of Fashion Industries with the help of Celestino Couture. Apart from the clothing being ethically sourced and produced, they’re also incredibly chic.
The campaign stars L’Officiel USA digital cover star Indya Moore, Corinna Drengk, Carlina Rivera, Gina Cavallo, Zazie Beetz, Shannon King, Lee Upshur, Khrystyana Kazakova, and Wade Davis and everyone featured shared their personal connections to the cause. And with Denim Day just around the corner (April 24th, 2019), the collection will be for sale by Beauty for Freedom via their website with 100% of the proceeds benefiting Challenging Heights, Beauty for Freedom and Denim Day. Being charitable has never been so chic.
